It was two years ago that I was last in the Lynn Canyon area. I had wanted to come back when the flow of the Creek was a bit higher to get some more active water fall images. Though the day started a bit dull, it became a pleasant day to be exploring the valley, not overly hot but still bright enough that the photos had some decent colour to them.
Just as we arrived at the suspension bridge I noticed a nice waterfall coming down the wall to the side of the walkway. Last time this streamlet was at most a trickle and didn’t even show up! So I was encouraged that the water flow would be higher like I was wanting. I do love this little suspension bridge, it is quite a lot of fun to walk across, and just enough sway to make it interesting without being dangerous. Of course looking straight down from the centre is still quite enough to give oneself vertigo!
At the far side we came a cross a sign that reminded us to not have too much fun in the area, it would seem that several had gotten a bit carried away over the years (no pun intended). Our next stop was to the upper end of the creek where there is a nice pool. There are just enough rocks that one can climb over to get to a place at their very end where you can see up the river to where there is a nice waterfall. I’m sure most never see it! Today we were joined by several dogs that were quite enjoying the frigid water as they swam about retrieving sticks their owners seemed to keep losing in the water. But eventually even they got their chill and had enough!
Next we traveled down stream past the bridge and on into the lower areas where we were able to jump the fence at one spot to get some good views of the lower Falls. The flow of the creek is quite spectacular at this point as it tosses the water into the air creating tons of mist – quite refreshing on a hot day. There is a cave across the water that looks like it would be fun to explore some day.
Finally we came to the pools at the bottom of the falls where the water slows and becomes quite pleasant in summer for a refreshing dip. Today however, it was far too cold to get in it. Next stop was up the many stairs to the parking area where we enjoyed a quiet lunch. We decided to drop into the small ecology centre to see some of their quite impressive models and various educational stories. Though we weren’t in the park overly long we did enjoy the scenery and the rush of the water.
