This collection of images has been a growing interest for me over the years. I often discover some amazing beauties during my adventures in the backcountry. More recently I have made special trips just to track down and capture images of flowers in places as close as my backyard and others far away.

Dahlia

This lovely Dahlia was just opening up for a nice autumn display. It was discovered along the walkway on the east side of The Gorge in Victoria inside of Craigflower-Kosapsom Park on October 20th 2025. The flower was surrounded by many more Dahlias of various colours and together they were providing a beautiful colour display to the many walkers on the pathway.

Gary Oaks

These Gary Oak trees can be seen near the summit of Mount Douglas in Victoria. Their gnarly branches and seasonally changing leaves offer a variety of textures that can offer many amazing views of the trees and the slopes beyond. Here in early May 2017 the leaves were new and emerging for the summer.

Grapes - Metallic

While I was exploring the escarpment behind Grimsby, Ontario I came across fields and fields of grapes. This particular cluster caught my attention as I drove past the vineyard. It quite amazed me to see so many grapes growing in one place, the rows of vines were hundreds of feet long with hundreds or rows! The cluster was captured on October 18, 2003.

I tried a metallic variant of the grapes and found it to be quite pleasing and so I am offering it in addition to the original.

Daffodil

This little beauty was found amongst many peers in my front yard on March 31, 2024. One often doesn't need to go far to find some of the beauty nature offers so freely.

Office Rose

This little beauty was found struggling to present a lovely sight right in the midst of traffic and exhaust fumes. Discovered on August 4, 2002 on the edge of the parking lot of my office, I found the rose to be a testimony of nature’s strength and perseverance in the face of man’s tendency to pave over everything. The tenderness of the petals and colour graduations are a reminder of the creativity of nature – each living thing is unique in some way.

Purple Orchid

This little beauty was located in the Queen Elizabeth Conservatory on July 20, 2002. It was tucked away amidst other tropical plants but still managed to make its presence known by offering a wonderful combination of colour and contrasts. The solidness of the tree behind the orchid brings out its delicate shape and colour and reminds us of the infinite variety nature uses to express itself.

Sea Nettle

This image of the Sea Nettle jelly fish was captured on March 24, 2007. It amazes me that something with so little solid mass can actually be alive and make intelligent choices as to where to go and how to feed. This guy was busy exploring his neighbourhood while fishing for his next meal.
